Can you believe this is the first family picture we've ever taken?! It only took 22 years, but we got it.

construction zone

I apologize for my blog being MIA these last couple of days. I've now successfully switched my blog url from our names, to lundstrompark.com. I decided I wanted to nix the terribly long, boring name to something easier and better suited to me. You will be redirected back here if you type in our old url, so no worries, but you can go ahead and update any links you may have for us.

FYI - Lundstrom Park (or, as my little family likes to call it, our park) is a place that we have many cherished memories. Memories from our first, awkward dating days, to the first I love you's, to the peaceful summer engaged days, to our family picnic days and hearing Oaklen laugh for the first time. We know that each time we sit under that same old tree, it's about to be a day we will never forget.

welcome back.

30 for 30

Fall30for30logo

I've seen this 30 for 30 challenge for months now, but I didn't have the guts to try it myself. I thought for sure I would give up well before the 30 day mark, exhausted that I have to wear the same things over and over aaaand over again. But after much thought, this is just what I need. No more standing in front of my closet for 15 minutes debating which shirt to wear with those pants, only to give up and wear the same shirt I ALWAYS wear with those pants. Now I'm pumped and fully prepared to stretch that little creative piece of my brain as far as it will let me go.

Anyone else want to brave this one with me? I would love to have a 30 for 30 partner to keep me motivated, heaven knows I need it. Let me know if you're up for it!

You have until January 28th to join in on this challenge. Wish me luck...

let the fun begin

Remember this post? Oh, how I dreaded the days when I knew I'd be waking up and holding a baby all. day. long. Don't get me wrong, I love holding the little stinker, but my arms and back were saying otherwise. Scoot forward to the day he learned how to crawl and BAM. No more fussy, hold-me-right-now-or-I'll-die baby. In fact, he'd rather do his own baby stuff and ditch mom. What a difference! I can clean the house sometimes, I can get on the computer, do my hair, get dressed in clothes instead of pajamas...it's awesome. Some would say I was privileged NOT to do those things everyday. But no my friends. It's time I shave my legs and put on some makeup because I'm BACK!

However, there are some downsides to all this new found freedom. You see, I have a ten month old monkey now, not just a baby. I could usually find him right at my feet trying so desperately to climb up my leg or pull down whatever it is I'm holding. Now I just see this:

or this:

and if I'm really lucky, I get the honors of seeing my sweet little boy doing this:

Mommy is so proud. So proud, that I took pictures AND video before tossing him into the tub, and gagging for 3 minutes straight.

Daddy - please leave the toilet seat down next time, ok? ok.

Coffee Filter Wreath

I've decided to take a break from my pretend cleaning, and make this wreath that I've been dying to try since I first saw it here. Besides, I've already cleaned 2 1/2 rooms from top to bottom, and already there is MORE DUST. I'm not sure when this fiasco will end, but if it doesn't soon, I'm hiring a maid.

This wreath swept me off my feet. I fell in love HARD. Especially since it's made completely of coffee filters. Yes. coffee filters! And better yet, to make 2 of them it only cost me 3 dollars, people!! Think of the possibilities!

First I made a D.I. run to see if I could salvage some really nasty wreath for a dollar. Hobby Lobby and Micheals had them for 4 dollars each and I wanted to keep my total as low as possible. I scored big time at D.I. when I found not one, but two brand new straw wreaths (12") for 50 cents each!

I snatched those suckers up, and 2 packs of coffee filters from the Dollar Tree (size 3 1/4"), and raced home.

This is how I put mine together -
What you'll need:
  • wreath (Styrofoam, straw)
  • coffee filters (if your making a large wreath, try to find large filters)
  • glue gun and glue (or anything else to secure it)

First you fold the coffee filter in half

Then in half again

Then glue it to the wreath. (I kept the plastic on my wreath. There is no point in taking it off.) I used an overlapping pattern to place my filters on the wreath. You'll have to judge it as you go, and maybe practice before you glue them down, but I place one on the outside, one on the inside and then one in the middle, and repeat. You just want it to blend together and fill any gaps.

Once it's finished you can take scissors and trim any filters that stick up to high, or shape it more into a circle.

You should have something like this! -

I apologize for the crappy pictures. My camera is dead so I'm using an old camera.

If you try this tutorial, please leave a link to your post so I can see it! I would love to see what you've made!

a bad day

About a week ago, we scheduled an appointment to get insulation done for our house. It was on a killer deal, and since the previous owners of our house turned the perfectly good garage into one gigantic, awkward room (why?!!), we never use it (or heat it) because it's always freezing cold in the winter. We figured after 2 years, it was time to get some use out of the stupid room.
I mentally set an alarm clock for 7:30 a.m. the night before they were to come do the insulation, and guess what?! I forgot to wake up. Oaklen had one heck of a night that night too, so I got no sleep. Which also meant, we slept in. Until nine. When I woke up to my doorbell ringing. I had to answer the door to 3 strange men while still wearing pink snowflake pajamas, no bra (like it makes a difference anyway), wicked bed head and awesome morning breath. I was mortified.
After about 10 minutes of them scooting around in the attic, my heater turned on. 2 minutes later I smelled something burning. 1 minute later I saw smoke. 30 seconds later, I heard one of the men asking me to come out because "I think something's burning!!". I thought the candle warmer I turned on minutes before had somehow fallen over and started a fire, and that the house was going to explode. After searching my house high and low, there was no fire. Or smoke. It was actually dust. From the heater vents. Blowing into my newly cleaned house, into our lungs, and making a nice sheet of brown dust on every square inch of my house. No really. It's everywhere!
We still can't find the exact reason as to why the dust keeps coming through our vents. All we know is that there must be a vent in the attic that's open, and everytime someone goes up there, dust (and lots of it) gets sucked in and then blown out through the heater vents. Luckily it will eventually stop after it all settles in the attic, but now my house smells like burnt irons and dirt. So I get the privilege of cleaning my entire house, top to bottom, clothes, bedding, couches, dishes and silverware, for the next 3 months of my life. Because that's how long it's going to take me.

This is what I get to clean -

Wish me luck. If you don't see or hear from me for a few weeks, you'll know why.

I'm thinkin'

Not only is this one of the cutest kids ever, but I'm planning on growing Oaklen's hair out like this. I just hope it will look as good as his does.

I have a feeling Oak's is going to be very straight and very thin. Which may not be very attractive. So if that's the case, I would love to do something like this:

actually, I think he would be dashing with locks like this:

....just kidding Grandma. =)

Christmas in Pictures - part 2

Let's continue on, shall we?

photoshoot with the wee ones

why yes. that is an awesome sweater I'm wearing. and yes, it did at one point belong to my mother.

Daner doo as.....I'll have to get back to you on that one.

I gave my phone to Macie and told her to take some lovely pictures of the family. This is what I got.

some driving pictures, including the crazy snow we drove home in because we thought we were beating a huge storm home. It was sunny the next day.

Thank you to all those who spoiled us and shared your love. Oaklen has more toys than I can store in his bedroom, but we're so grateful that he has so many things to do now! Yummy food, fun with family, new traditions and watching Oaklen's little eyes on Christmas day was absolutely fantastic. All that we had hoped for and more.
